flowercrown

Portabella was super excited. Every morning she would wake up bright and early to go on a walk in the forest. Today was no different. It was 6:00 am as she rolled out of bed and took her bonnet off. She walks into her little bathroom and washes her face. She puts on her super light, everyday makeup. This consisted of eyeliner and bright red cherry lipstick. She decides to tie her shoulder length passion twists into a bun. Portabella had a naturally large afro. Because of this, she would often twist her hair to make it manageable.

She then walks to her closet and decides on a dress adorned with a delicate floral pattern. The dress boasts short puff sleeves, a square neckline, and a fitted bodice. The dress went down below her knees. She put on her doc martin boots and found a bandana that matched the floral pattern. She grabs her picnic basket and walks outside, closing the door gently behind her.

While she lived close to the city–about 15 minutes away, her mom had bought a small cottage house in the middle of the woods. She loved being surrounded by nature. She loved all sorts of plants and fungi, feeling a special connection to mushrooms due to her name. She breathes in the fresh air as she skips down to a field full of flowers.

She takes out the blanket, folded neatly in her basket, and unfolds it before setting it on the ground. She sits down and begins picking the flowers and making them into a flower crown. She used to do this for herself, but there was a boy she liked at school. And everyday on her walk, she would stop by this field of flowers and make him a flower crown. Sometimes she would make a bracelet or a ring.

He always loved these gifts from Portabella and it made her heart swell with love when he took her handmade gifts with the excitement of a child. She found him absolutely adorable supplies before walking out her room. There her mom was in the kitchen, cooking breakfast, just like she did every morning.

“Morning momma!” Portabella hugs her mom tightly.

Portabella’s mom–Daisy–hugs her back.

“Good morning, Shroom, how did you sleep?” Her mother asks as she fixes Portabella’s plate for her.

“I slept good! I enjoyed my walk this morning as well!” She states with a cheerful expression. Daisy notices the flower crown on her head and smiles softly.

“I see you made Ashton another flower crown…”

Portabella blushes and giggles happily. “Momma, you should see his face light up like a little child when I give him these gifts…”

Daisy just laughs at her daughter's happy expression. “You should eat breakfast and get going dear. You don’t want to be late.”

Portabella nods her head before grabbing her plate and sitting down at the table. She couldn’t stop thinking about Ashton, excited to see him once more. She shared a few classes with him, and they sat right next to each other. He would entertain her and tell her funny stories and jokes. In return, she would help him with homework, happy to just spend time with him. Portabella finishes her food before grabbing her water bottle and her bookbag.

“I’m off! See you when I get home!” She calls out before running out the door.

“Have a good day Shroom!” Her mother calls back as she watches her leave.

Portabella hops into her car before she begins driving to school. After 20 minutes, she pulls into the parking lot and parks her car. She locks the car before happily skipping to the library. She walks up some stairs before making a left. Once she enters, she signs in and begins looking around.

“Portabella!” A deep but excited voice calls out. She quickly looks around before spotting Ashton and his twin brother Aiden. Portabella's face glows as she quickly walks up to them and sits across from them.

“Good morning Ashton and Aiden!” She says cheerfully as she looks at them.

Aiden gives her a small but pleasant smile. “Good morning Portabella.”

Ashton immediately notices the flower crown on her head and his face lights up like a child. “Oh, oh, oh! Is the flower crown for me?!”

Portabella giggles before taking it off her head, leaning across the table, and setting it on his head. “ A flower crown for my favorite boy!” She exclaimed with joy.

Ashton's eyes sparkle with happiness before he turns to his brother. “Hear that Aiden,” he says, shaking his shoulder like a little kid. “I’m her favorite boy!!”

Aiden deadpans but there was an amused smile on his face. He stands up and looks at the two. “I’m going to go look at some books.”

Aiden then walks off before leaving Portabella and Ashton by themselves.
